Does Unleash The Power Within Work?

DOES UNLEASH THE POWER WITHIN WORK?

As part of my year of exploring the top success programs and designing a life I love,  I decided I would jump start the process with the big daddy of them all, Anthony Robbins.

Unless you've been in a catatonic state for the last 20 years (or no access to cable television) you've probably heard of the 6’7” giant with big teeth, really great hair and an uncanny ability to convince you that you can do almost anything

. 

His infomercial on Personal Power II ran around the clock for years and he’s sold approximately one gazillion units of this product (many of which I am sure their owners never opened after they arrived in the mail).

Inside Secret: Although dated, the Personal Power II product is definitely worth the time and money.  Don’t buy it new as you can get it for $30 to $60 on Ebay.  (I’ll be doing a review on the product in the near future)

In any event, Robbin’s gateway drug to the seminar business is his Unleash the Power Within Seminar.  The program is touted as a, “Weekend event for creating Lasting Impact in Your Life,” where you’ll, “Revolutionize: Your Body, Your Emotions, Your Finances and Your Relationship.”

One disclosure:  This is not the first Unleash event I’ve attended.  The first was at least 10 years ago and was held in a medium sized hotel ballroom in Denver Colorado.  The event changed my life and the lives of those that went with me.

But time has passed and I am returning because: (1) I need a refresher (30 pounds overweight and financially devastated) , and (2) I think it is time my daughter, Kati, who is 16 would benefit from having Tony do a little work under the hood.

The seminar is not cheap.  Tickets range from $695 - $2,595 (I'm in the cheap seats). 

Inside Secret: If you put together a group of three or more, you can get your ticket free if you contact a Robbins representative.

Day One.

The wait is long.  Believe it or not, this line runs the entire length of the hotel and out the door. 

  

Insider Tip:  Registration starts at 8:00 a.m. Get there at 7:30 as you will want to get a good seat.  A better idea is to shell out some more cash and pay for a better seat.

Once inside, the music is rocking and the huge ballroom is filled.  Much has changed since I first saw Robbins.  He’s coming off of Oprah and there are thousands of people attending the event.  I’m in the cheap seats so Robbins is like a dot on the stage, but he’s clearly visible on the big screens.

Inside Secret: The “Executive” ticket is only about $200 more, but the closer seats and ability to get in early is worth the price.  If you’re not going to get their early just go for the cheap seats.

Robbins is a master of NLP and he uses many of the techniques in controlling and motivating the crowd.  If you’ve ever looked at Frank Kern’s Crowd Control, you’ll see step by step how it is done. Before long, the crowd responds enthusiastically.  Robbins tells us there are two fears we have that all humans share (See my FREE outline) and three patterns of emotion that he calls the Triad.  This Triad combined with what Robbins calls the Six Human Needs really creates whether we love or hate our lives.

Inside Secret:  This Human Needs Psychology really works.  I attended a Robbins Leadership Seminar and saw it work miracles over and over.  In fact, the most powerful Robbins product is not for sale – It is the Leadership Academy workbook and flash cards that came with the seminar.

On day one, Robbins works with us on figuring out our greatest fears and even the benefits the fear has given us.  We work with the driving forces of pain and pleasure and learn that in mastering our state or emotions we can make powerful changes.

As part of overcoming the fear, we all agree to take off our shoes and cross a bed of hot coals in our bare feet (yes, we paid good money to do this).

Insider Secret.  There is no trick with the hot coals. They are VERY real.  I volunteered with what they call the Fire Crew to prepare the firewalk and it is just: (1) wood turned into hot coals, (2) sod and (3) some water at the end to wipe off your feet.

Robbins keeps us up late, and wears down our defenses

Overall, day one is a very powerful experience where I  am forced to face my fears associated with my failed business and a feeling I have lost my significance.

Day Two

We get there early, but good seats are still hard to find.  The crowd is already pumped up and my daughter is participating, which is a good sign.  

Tony is not here.  His second in command, Joseph McClendon III, is in charge.  While good, Joe is not Tony. 

A lot of the day consists of videos of Tony.

Tony goes through: (1) the power of your beliefs (2) his 3 steps for lasting change, (4) the Driving Force (5) asking intelligently. 

These steps are all powerful, but I think Robbin’s best work is with his Human Needs, which he touches upon again, showing that growth and contribution are the basis of happiness.

There is an exercise on closing the gap between where I am now and where I want to be.  I’m satisfied with the map I've produced and will be partially using it for my life changing endeavors.

Robbins does an exercise on the power of mastering your business.  While there is a bit of valuable info here, most of it is over the head of the crowd.

Overall it is a great day.  We've had the chance to really look at our lives.

Day Three

Tony is back.  Thank God!

Robbins keeps the crowd rocking and moves between strategies, exercises and stories.  If you know anything about NLP, you can see Robbins is a master practitioner.

After determining the areas of life that need to be worked on, the 3 Pillars of Progress are introduced along with emotional recipes and how to elicit someone’s strategies (including your own).

The culmination of the day comes with what Robbins calls the Dicken’s Process.  I won’t go into it here, but it is a very effective method of adding tremendous pain to the things you want to change and adding pleasure to path you want to follow. 

For me, it helped clear the way for me to change my life.  I knew that my significance should not be tied up in money, or my business, but the process really helped me move past these things.

A good amount of time is taken pitching other Robbin’s seminars and products.  There are a good amount of people who sign up.  To tell you the truth, I have no doubt that each of the seminars they offer: (1) Life Mastery, (2) Wealth Master and (3) Date with Destiny all for about $11,000 (each one is about $5,000 if you buy separately), but I have no doubt the programs are worth every penny.

I’ve talked with a number of people who have attended Date With Destiny and found it much more intimate and more life changing than Unleash The Power Within.

The night ends with a powerful party like atmosphere with Tony spraying the crowd with water.

Day 4

Once again, Joseph is in charge.  In some ways, this day seems like the day after Christmas.  While informative and interesting, day 4 is all about nutrition and health and it is lacking the charismatic feel of the previous 3 days. 

At its root level, Robbins believes we should “alkalize and energize,”  This means that greens drinks and exercise are king and potato chips are out.

Robbins has a new section of information on creating an environment that nurtures and heals.  This subject is a bit near and dear to my heart as it is clear the chemicals we ingest through cosmetics, water, cleaning solutions, dry cleaning, commercial beverages are harming us.

Review

I’m going to give Unleash the Power Within 9 out of 10 stars. I’d give it 10 stars if Tony taught it all the way through.

If you want to change your life, beg, borrow or steal the $600 and go.  You will be glad you did.  The money you pay is just almost nothing compared to the benefit you receive.

While did not have the same impact as the seminar years ago (my guess is that Tony could do it in his sleep now and maybe does), the process is completely worth the time and provides a fantastic foundation for setting up a new life.

Post Script

The seminar really did help me work through some negative patterns and thinking that had been plaguing me.

I've been reviewing my workbook and have begun to make changes in my diet and exercise.

I’m also letting go off a few things and am excited about starting a new business.
